MURDERED: Destiny McClain

When you find the word “DESTINY” in the dictionary, you get a list of four or five definitions that all say similar things. Destiny means “something that is to happen or has happened.” It means “the predetermined; usually inevitable or irresistible course of events.” It means “the power or agency that determines things to come.” It also means “this power personified or represented as a goddess.” All of these definitions could be attributed to Destiny Chaneice McClain. The word was more than her namesake. It defined the sheer force of nature that she was. The word “DESTINY” was exactly the way Destiny McClain lived her life right up until the day she was tragically killed at the young age of 23.

Destiny’s mom, Brenda Gilliam-Miller, says that “Destiny did everything on HER terms.” She was always someone who stood out from others. She was a vibrant, caring, and loving person who made a positive impact on seemingly everyone she met. Even when she was little, when other kids treated her unkindly, Destiny harnessed that energy to eventually stand up and protect others who experienced the same treatment from bullies. And her passion for helping others would only grow stronger as she grew older.

But on July 18th, 2021, the world lost Destiny’s bright and shining light when she was senselessly killed by gunfire. It was one of the few times that the self-proclaimed homebody ventured out for some fun with friends, and the night would end in bitter tragedy. Who shot and killed young Destiny McClain? Will the mystery of her murder ever be solved? Will her mother and sisters ever see justice for their beloved daughter and sister?
