MURDERED: Kate Brown & Carnell Sledge
June 4, 2019 was a beautiful sunny day in Northeast Ohio. Around 5:00 p.m., two longtime friends, Carnell Sledge and Kate Brown arrived at the Rocky River Reservation in Fairview Park, Ohio, a 2,500 acre nature preserve.
The meeting was spur of the moment. Carnell had left work and planned to have a family dinner at his grandmother’s house. But he drove a considerable distance out of his way when Kate asked him to meet. She met him at the park after exercising at her nearby apartment gym.
After parking, they sat on a bench overlooking the western bank of the Rocky River to talk. Just a few minutes later, two kayakers passing through the area noticed a body near the park bench. As the couple walked closer, they found Carnell’s body on the ground and Kate’s body in the water.
Kate had been fatally shot once in the back of the head, and Carnell died from two gunshot wounds to the head. She was just 33 years old, and he was only 40.
